How it Works
Let’s face it, most compliance training fails miserably. From eLearning courses that have nothing to do with your business and can’t easily be customized, to in-person/Zoom sessions delivered by PowerPoint to people checking their phones, compliance training has a bad reputation that it’s earned.
But we’ve changed all that.

What makes Compliance Competitor special?
Compliance Competitor is a fully customizable training game played in groups for maximum engagement and effectiveness.
It’s based on business simulation software to simulate real-life scenarios. Stock price and revenues go up and down depending on the choices the teams make, and fines and punishments can torpedo the business’ growth.
The game can be played in person, via Zoom.

Why we created it
Kristy and Nicole have been through hours of terrible compliance training. When Kristy was in-house at a film distribution company, the anti-bribery eLearning course she had to deploy was built around a scenario involving a candy company. It had no resonance whatsoever with her employees. When she tried to have it customized, the only things that could be easily changed were the logos.
“There has to be a better way,” she thought.
When Kristy started Spark Compliance, she began experimenting with gamification and competition as adult learning techniques. This led to her popular in-person training sessions based on group learning.
When the pandemic hit, she knew she needed to bring her unique sensibilities to a broader-based gaming product available both online and in person. Compliance Competitor was born.

How we created it
It’s based on business simulation software. The fully-customizable base scenarios have been drafted by Nicole Di Schino, former editor-in-chief of the Anti-Corruption Report. We worked with an educational psychologist with more than 20 years in practice to incorporate adult learning techniques and to ensure the best possible experience for the learners.
After you run a Compliance Competitor training game, we can compile your company’s personal Training and Ethical Assessment Report.
Your report will chronicle and assess the responses for each scenario to give you a picture of the ethical health of your company.
This key information can:
- Be used as critical points for your risk assessment
- Meet DOJ and regulatory expectations for monitoring training effectiveness
- Inform the training and communications plan for the next training cycle
- Show effectiveness over time.

Multiple issues and dilemmas are baked into every scenario
The best compliance training includes ethical dilemmas as well as compliance lessons.
In real life, compliance problems are multi-faceted. Bribery issues show up entwined with trade sanctions and/or modern slavery challenges. Since real life compliance problems aren’t simplistic, neither are the scenarios we present.
Ethical dilemmas, such as conflicts of interest, bonus clawbacks, people being fired, emotional attachments, and not having done work properly the first time come up to add pressure and interest to the discussions.
All scenarios involve ethical dilemmas, these include:
• Emotional relationships that will be damaged
• Uncomfortable conflicts for the team
• People who will be fired or disciplined if the truth comes out
• The clawing back of bonuses or promotions
• People admitting compliance failures to do the right thing
